Mission Statement: The Hebron Silver Wings strive for excellence, both as a team and as individuals. We are disciplined and self confident young women focused on success. The Silver Wings shall develop character, leadership and individual responsibility while maintaining high moral standards, but also learning and incorporating humility into both our school and outside lives. We shall work to boost the morale and spirit of Hebron High School. We understand that our responsibility as Silver Wings is not just in our performance but extends into our everyday lives. It is the Silver Wings purpose to act in a manner that reflects pride to our family, Hebron High School and our community. We are the Silver Wings.
The Silver Wing Experience...
Our Beginnings as Hebron Silver Wings
Being selected as a Silver Wing is an outstanding achievement! It is a commitment that must be taken seriously. To remain a member of the team, students must maintain the following: passing grades in all courses; an acceptable level of dance skill; the ability to run a 9-minute mile; and good physical condition. Members must also uphold the guidelines established for the drill team organization, and the Lewisville ISD Code of Conduct, at all times.
There are long hours required of drill team members both before and after school, as well as some evenings and weekends. As a result, family schedules and carpools will sometimes have to be arranged to accommodate the drill team member's commitment to the organization. This is a team activity. Each girl must be present for all rehearsals, performances and fundraisers, etc.
New Team Training: Rookies begin their training for Silver Wings in the spring after tryouts. Rookies meet with officers for approximately three weeks after school in May. The Silver Wings attend team camp usually in June or July. The officers will hold mini-sessions for reviewing dances usually in July and early August. The team will also meet the week before school starts for a mini-camp to start conditioning and refreshing what we learned at camp. Once school begins, practice starts at 7:00 a.m. and Silver Wings is the 1st period class.
Football Season: The Silver Wings perform at all football games, home or away, this includes play-off games. The team also performs at school pep-rallies and participates in the homecoming parade. Go Hawks!
Contest Season: Practice for the contest season begins in late Fall with tryouts for dances in January. The competitions take place in the Spring. The team will learn different routines to perform in front of judges. The contests usually take place in different high schools and/or universities. Most team and officer routines are performed on the gym floor. The Silver Wings use contest season as a form of training for Nationals.
Spring Show: The Silver Wings conclude the year with a Spring Show and Banquet. The Spring Show is an opportunity to see how the team has grown and a special performance by the “Silver Wings Big Daddies” is a real treat. Please join us at the Spring Show if you are considering becoming a Silver Wing. The Silver Wings Banquet is a time to acknowledge the accomplishments of the team, a time to thank the families for supporting the Silver Wings, and a time to honor the graduating seniors.
Fundraisers: We make every effort to keep expenses reasonable, but there are considerable costs associated with being a member of the drill team. Several fundraisers are scheduled to help defray expenses. Each family directly benefits from the money raised, so all families are expected to support the events by giving their time and talents. Please see the website for a description of the fundraisers.
Support: Being a drill team member can be very demanding. Believing that your daughter and the Silver Wings should be supported, we encourage parents to attend monthly Booster Club meetings, serve on committees, help fundraise to cover team expenses, help with costumes and props, and most importantly - attend as many team performances as possible. Dads also have a special opportunity to join the “Big Daddies”.
Parents make a difference! Your support of the Silver Wings is very important to your daughter, her teammates and your Silver Wings family. Remember, to the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world. Silver Wings is an awesome journey. Your positive attitude will greatly influence your daughter's Silver Wings experience. Parents must be willing to be involved, build each other up and support the Silver Wings, and must always consider what is best for the team. We do things the Hebron way! We are the Silver Wings! Come and join us!
How the Silver Wings Got Their Name...
Our Beginnings as Hebron Silver Wings
In 1999 the original 20 members of the Silver Wings submitted ideas and voted on the team name. Ellen Kay Martinez submission “Silver Wings” was selected as the official team name.
Our Team Uniform...
Our Style Helps Make Us Who We Are
The original uniform is still worn by the Silver Wings today. In 2007 a second uniform was added. The Silver Wings wear the original uniform at the first game of each season as well as the last game of each season so the Seniors perform their final dance in the very uniform they performed their first game in.
The Officer Strut...
It's All About Attitude
The Hebron Marching Band plays “Hey Look Me Over” as the officers enter the football field each halftime performance of the Hebron Hawks. The original officer strut was modified in 2003 and has remained the same for present day.
